What is sunless spray tanning?

Sunless spray tanning is the newest trend in the tanning industry. A tanning technician (that's me) uses a spray gun to apply a tanning solution (DHA) to the client's body. By using this hand technic  it ensures a consistent application.

Why sunless spray tanning instead of UV (bed) tanning and is it safe?

Every time your skin is exposed to UV rays, your chances of developing skin cancer increases. Each year, the rate of skin cancer grows do to harmful UV exposure. It is estimated that 7,000 people die from skin cancer every year. According to the WebMD, about 50,000 new cases of melanoma skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States yearly. Additionally, sun damage can cause wrinkles, spots, and burns. Sprayz of Sunshine is pain free! Its much safer and easier to spend 20 minutes once a week instead of 20 minutes every other day in a tanning bed or hours outdoors.

Airbrush tanning is the safest way to get a tan. As with anything, sensitivity or allergies can occur, but they are rare. If you have ever had adverse effects using any self-tanning products or moisturizers, you could experience similar effects with spray tanning. The active ingredient in airbrush tanning solution is DHA (dihydroxiacetone). DHA has been FDA approved for the topical application and used for self-tanning since the 1960's. When DHA comes in contact with the amino acids of the skin, it creates a natural chemical reaction that causes the skin to appear tanned.

Some formulas can however, I use a specially formulated solutions for all skin tones.

Is spray tanning safe for pregnant women?

Fact is, there have not been any studies done on the inhalation of the spray and pregnant women. Therefore, I always recommend that women check with their doctor before making an appointment. You can rest assured, though, that my tanning area is well ventilated and I also offer nose filters to wear while you are sprayed, therefore avoiding the inhalation issue all together. Please let me know if you are pregnant when booking your appointment so that we can take these steps.

NO! Spray tanning does not protect you from the sun. You still need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays.

How long does a spray tan last?

There are many variable that factor into the time you tan lasts, but the average is 7 to 10 days. Like a suntan, a sunless tan will fade gradually as your skin naturally exfoliates. However, you can extend your tan by  moisturizing twice daily. I sell a moisturizer and tan extender that work with the solution I use to maximize the length of your tan.

How often can I get a spray tan?

Tanning can be performed as often as you like, however spray tanning back to back on the same day is not advised as it does give the DHA time to absorb into the skin between sessions. You should wait at least 24 hours in between sessions to see your full developed color before booking a second session.
